Choose between local tools and connected AI
Understand downloads, account requirements, input handling, and the meaning of free access.
Three kinds of workflow
| Type | What runs | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Browser utility | Filters, SVG templates, or prompt templates | A compatible browser; no model or API key |
| Local AI | A downloaded model on your device | Initial downloads, available memory, and browser support |
| Connected AI | An external provider processes your request | Your provider account, API key, and available allowance or balance |
The 158 entries are task workflows, not 158 distinct AI models. For example, writing tools share a small language model but use different instructions. The Photo Editor and Logo Designer are browser utilities.
For a first visit, start locally
Try a utility when you want a quick result without a model download. The Photo Editor adjusts color and contrast; it does not perform generative object replacement. The Logo Designer makes template-based concepts; it does not verify trademark availability.
Local AI works best when the task is small and specific. AI Chat uses SmolLM2 360M, approximately 365 MB plus runtime files on first download. It can help brainstorm a short outline, but it does not browse for current facts. Close unnecessary tabs if a larger model runs out of memory.
Before connecting a provider
- Open the provider’s official account dashboard from the tool’s setup link.
- Check whether your account is eligible for a free tier or trial and whether paid billing is enabled. Displayed allowances are reference information, not your live balance.
- Use a restricted key where your provider supports one. Paste it only into the connection field.
- Review commercial-use and data terms before sending client content or using generated media in paid work.
Free AI Harbor does not sell a subscription, but it cannot guarantee that every provider request is free. A provider can charge an account with paid billing enabled. A browser connection error can occur even with a valid key if the provider does not allow browser requests.
What stays after you leave
Local chat history and saved bookmarks remain in this browser until deleted. Temporary files and connected-provider keys are kept in tab memory. Connected providers receive the requests you send and apply their own retention policies. The workspace’s privacy policy explains the distinction.
